Open Letter

Dear Friend

The two natural disasters that struck our state made clear to all of us the importance of leadership. Now that the disaster is passed, and we are working hard on our recovery – the need for leadership is greater than ever.

As 23rd District Senator, I’m working with the Governor, legislature, and local officials to address the strain on our education, healthcare and transportation systems. I’m committed to seeing that Lafayette is able to respond and prosper in this challenging time.

If we ever needed fresh, creative thinking with new ways to approach the problems we are facing – now is the time.

Recently, along with State Representative Joel Robideaux, I proposed a Coastal Protection Highway from the Texas border to New Orleans adjacent to the Intracoastal Canal. A combination seawall, and transportation corridor – such an endeavor could bring needed coastal protection for our entire coast, while providing additional hurricane evacuation capacity, infrastructure for our energy industry, and new eco-development opportunities. We are working to begin the studies necessary for such an undertaking.

I’m not an attorney, I’m a small businessman – and I also bring 10 years of legislative experience in the House and Senate to the table. So, I’m working for workable, common sense solutions that can help move Lafayette and Louisiana forward.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions regarding steps we might take to respond to the historic challenges we are facing.

I appreciate your input and support.

Sincerely,

Mike Michot

Leadership for Louisiana

March 4th, 2006

We are facing unique challenges in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

After doing everything we possibly could to promote growth here in Lafayette for over a century, we have now been inundated with 25 years’ growth in about 90 days.

With all the devastation in New Orleans and southeast Louisiana, with the incredible doubling of Baton Rouge, with the impact of Rita on the Lake Charles area – Lafayette has become the anchor of south Louisiana – and an oasis in a sea of turmoil.

As 23rd District Senator, I’m working with the Governor, legislature, and local officials to address the strain on our education, healthcare and transportation systems. I’m committed to seeing that Lafayette is able to respond and prosper in this challenging time
